This isn't even really a question. Edmonton has more talent by far just based on McD alone. They have holes but are still far superior to Montreal.

Montreal without a doubt. EDM has no team if McDavid isnt standing on his head. You've got Drouin, Pacioretty, and Galchenyuk all with only 2g a piece. They are going to rebound

MTL has no team if not for Price, both teams heavily depend on one player to win.

Montreal's goal scoring problems have been around for years.
They can take all the shots they want but if no one is willing to go to the net nothing is going to change.

Probably Edmonton, considering Montreal is absolutely terrible this year

Completely unrelated (don't see a Sharks blog to comment on there), but I'm wondering how Burns has been playing? I'm thinking about trading for him in my hockey pool... San Jose's pretty low in the standing right now, and Burns has yet to score, but he's registering tons of shots...

I don't disagree with any of the points any of these guys said, save for one. "The oilers have more talent between the pipes." GTFO you dummy. Tessier. Price is obviously not playing well right now, but it's probably because his back is sore from carrying the team for the past half decade, and his neck is sore from all of the international gold he's won. Talbot is no punk in net, but lets not kid ourselves over who's got the better goalie.

Both will rebound. The bigger question is can they dig themselves out of the early season hole and make the playoffs?

Could be worse I guess.. could be the Sabres and not be able to depend on anyone

I think they will both rebound nicely and at least be in the playoff picture.

I am an Oiler fan and don't like the Habs at all but there is some very rediculous statements going around for both teams.

The Oilers are far more than just McDavid, or just McDavid and Talbot, or just McDavid Leon and Talbot.

The same can be said for Montreal. They are not just Price, or Price and Pac, or Price Pac and Weber...

Both teams have holes/weaknesses but both have the players/team to overcome those defiecies. Not a huge fan of taking stats by themselves and arbitrarily saying both teams obviously should be much better but those stats certainly imply that both teams should be able to turn it around significantly.

However the nhl is a unforgiving league and no matter how much "bad luck" thier starts of the seasons seem to be both will be in tough to make the playoffs after thier bad starts.

I find it funny that so many fans feel it necessary to exaggerate player Xs/ effectiveness or ineffectiveness to support winning and losing. If you need any example of how little any individual can mean to a team winning look no further than Vegas this year. I didnt expect them to win a game really with that roster, its putrid, but there they are tearing it up right now. Avalanche and Van look like vastly better teams this year and imo didn't make any real significant changes to thier rosters.

Team play, systems, coaching, utilizing players strengths, minimizing players weaknesses, exploiting other teams weaknesses, luck, timing, chemistry, and confidence. All play bigger factors than anyone wants to admit.

The Oilers had forward talent to burn at one point and were expected to be good years ago. Didn't work. Imo Toronto has a similiar team to the crappy Oilers of years ago and yet they seem to be able to make it work.

Which of those 3 players are better than Edmonton’s 2nd best player in draisaitl ?

The logic here is a mess

If the top players for both teams would play amazing, Montreal would outdo Edmonton simply because of the split in talent on F/D/goalie where Edmonton's is F only.

In reality, flip a coin. Both teams have the capability to get 10 win streaks just fine. Will they? Thats the magic question.

They're both playing discombobulated. I think after the 20 game mark, you can start to worry, until then, chill. Media isnt helping matters either.

The bolded (especially the second) are absolutely bizarre statements and one can only wonder where the eff u got these ideas

On another note, Henderson’s thoughts are bang on here. Overall a little worse with loss of depth, no upgrades on defence (sekera injury compounds it) and a total dependence on internal improvement. The koolaid drinkers predicting cup didn’t bother to think about how many question marks there are with this team. They never do. Everything’s just always gonna go exactly to plan..

At the moment, wouldnt Drouin be better? lol

I'd have Weber and Price playing in their prime over Draisaitl any day though.

Drouin over draisaitl?!
In what way??

Weber is in the back 9 of his prime.
Price isn’t playing all that well.
Plus- can’t really compare goalies to forwards.

Edm doesn’t have an issue in net anyway. So it’s rather moot

Connor and Leon > mtls offence.
And it’s not really close

This isn’t about how great edm is. They’re not. They’re flawed even if they can turn it around.
But mtl is also deeply flawed

I'm guessing from the NHL standings... I haven't seen either the Avs nor the Nucks play yet this season, but Avs and Nucks are both 3rd in their respective divisions. Habs are last. Oil is 2nd last (hard to beat the Yotes for that honour).

The nucks made significant additions around the organization part.
Even internally with rooks grabbing spots

I think he’s referring to the part where neither team did anything this offseason. Both made many changes. People that were writing them both off before the season started were blind.

Should I disclaim that an iq prerequisite is often necessary before potentially reading my posts ?

I didn’t realize they were so difficult to interpret

Battle of two teams with awful GM's, neither should be allowed to touch their team anymore.

MTL would be better off with Subban and Sergachev, EDM would be better off with Hall and Eberle, not to mention free agent signings by both, not many of which have been any good.

It’s funny cause now that Chiarelli has gutted our wing depth, he’s probably desperate to make a move for a winger.

I’ll just go ahead and assume puljujarvi and slepyshev are totally ready to be impact players. What could go wrong ?
